Project: Walled Garden, Private Residence, Oxfordshire
ASA were asked to provide a new walled garden for fruit, vegetables and flowers, including a new contemporary greenhouse and the opportunity for use by the family as an amenity space for entertaining.
Set within the context of an Oxfordshire country estate, this private residence sits within a designated Registered Park and Garden.
The garden is on sloping ground and has several large mature trees whose root protection areas had to be avoided. This was achieved through a combination of the serpentine layout of the wall itself and by using clever construction techniques in bridging over the roots. The wall contains over 100,000 hand-made bricks in three colour tones and specially commissioned copings, laser cut screens providing ‘windows’ to the landscape beyond or tempting glimpses to the garden within. The wall itself and the terracing and raised beds within the garden flow with the contours of the landscape.
The project is due to be completed spring 2021.

ASA Landscape Architects has been working with us since late 2019 on a project at our property in Oxfordshire to build a new walled garden: it is substantial project – the garden is almost 1,800sqm. ASA has been involved from the start and has been the architect and the designer. It was a complex design process not least because of the existence of several mature trees which are incorporated in the garden.
